Alexandra Timber Tramway and Museum - 15/02/01

The railway had a quiet Christmas holiday period but patronage has been picking up since the return of children to school.
Bellarine Peninsula Railway - 15/02/01

The railway had a good holiday period and only used one steam engine on trains over the whole period. The engine Klondike that is on hire to the Abt railway in Tasmania is to return to Queenscliff by Easter. Weddings have been popular on the railway and on total fire ban days, they have run a diesel service. They are looking at air-conditioning some carriages.
Puffing Billy - Emerald Tourist Railway Board - 15/02/01

The six train running kept the railway busy over the holidays and numbers were good even on days of total fire ban. The Thomas days are going well and the children appreciate having a real "Thomas" engine present rather than a road look alike. The level crossing lights at Menzies Creek have been commissioned. The Climax engine will have a final last run shortly and any proceeds raised will be used to commence a fund to repair the engine, which it is believed that it has its original boiler.
Mornington Railway Preservation Society - 15/02/01

The railway suffered from the hot weather this summer and numbers were down. They have taken delivery of the K class engine from Wangaratta and have three K Class engines in Moorooduc yard. K177 has been stripped down with the boiler going for repair off site.
South Gippsland Tourist Railway - 15/02/01

Ruby bridge has been closed to all traffic so trains this year are running from Nyora to Korumburra. The Derm is out of service but the red hens are running the trains. They are seeking funds to upgrade the bridges.
Steamrail Victoria - 15/02/01

Freight Australia has been causing the group some difficulties with main line running. They suffered a second break-in and some material has been stolen. Theft has become a problem for all railways. The police are presently following a line of enquiry.
The Central Highlands Tourist Railway - 15/02/01

Daylesford Station has now been fully refurbished to its 1882 condition as built. Platform lights are being replaced. The veranda at Bullarto station has been built. During the heat of high summer, the DRC has come into its own and the air-conditioning has been appreciated by patrons. The railway is breaking into the wedding market and enquiries have eventuated with the railway taking guests from Daylesford to the Bullarto hall for the reception.
Victorian Goldfields Railway - 15/02/01

The J class engine failed with a defective main steam pipe. The previous pipe gave only 5 years service. The pipe is being replaced and the front end modified. The engine will be returned to service shortly. In addition, the K class engine failed with some superheating elements needing repair. This has been done and it is presently running trains. Planning for the Castlemaine yard is going ahead and applications made for funds. The railway is planning to run the steam freight again over the weekend of 19/20 May.
Walhalla Goldfields Railway - 15/02/01

Passenger numbers were on the up and up over the holiday running but dropped on the very hot days. The railway has a group of people working at Walhalla station and bridge No 1 is underway. They are seeking funding for bridges No 2 and No 3, which still have to be constructed. The steam locomotive is being painted and is waiting to be accredited.
Yarra Valley Tourist Railway - 15/02/01

The railway had a successful Christmas running period. A proposal has been submitted for funding for Healesville railway station restoration. Trolleys have been repainted and some new engines put in. An engine for the Derm has been obtained and a new backhoe is being purchased. Yarra Glen crossing lights can be manually operated. Re-sleepering is continuing and sections of the track will soon be up to locomotive standard.
